Being based on FFmpeg, Kdenlive can use almost any audio and video formats directly without the need to re-encode your clips (such as AVI, MP4, WMV, MPEG, etc.), and also supports 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios for both PAL, NTSC and various HD standards, including HDV and AVCHD.
